Before You Buy A Outdoor Table Tennis Table

Outdoor table tennis tables are meant for full-time outdoor use, it is therefore usually made from metal (such as aluminum), treated wood with a thick layer of protection, or some synthetic laminate construction. Because the tabletops are made from these materials as well (as opposed to wood or composite wood for indoor tables), the performance is usually lacking. That is, the bounce, spin, and ball speed will not compare with indoor table tennis tables. Manufacturers of outdoor tables focus their attention on ensuring the table will last through the elements and leave performance as only secondary. Since outdoor ping-pong tables are more expensive and demonstrates lower performance, my #1 advice is to buy one only if you're going to leave the table outside 100% of the time. If folding and bringing the tables indoors is not too much hassle, go with an indoor table that offers better performance and price.

Choosing A Tabletop

Aluminum is generally considered the best material for outdoor table tennis tables since they're rust-proof, unaffected by UV, and sturdy. Higher performance outdoor tables are manufactured with a wooden layer (some type of fiberboard) beneath the aluminum increasing the thickness of the tabletop, therefore producing a better, more natural bounce. On top of getting better performance, thicker tabletops are less prone to warping, especially in outdoor conditions.

Make sure to purchase an outdoor table tennis table with a matte finish to reduce possible glare from the sun or other ambient light.

What About The Frame & Legs?

Again, the ideal choice of material is aluminum because it is strong, light, and virtually weather-proof. While you will find undercarriages of outdoor tables to be made from steel (rusts) or treated wood (rots), it's generally a good idea to stay clear of these.
